Three of them, just like us: The Large Dammusi
each for up to 7 guests
The Large Dammusi were the first houses my parents built in the 1970’s, following the traditional style of local houses on the island. This design optimizes indoor and outdoor spaces to naturally regulate temperatures all year round.
Each of these houses can comfortably accommodate 7 people. The main room is proportionately spacious and is furnished with the dining table, colorfully cushioned sofas, and personal touches of a lovingly lived-in home.
The high vaulted ceilings circulate warm air upward and the thick volcanic tuff stone walls keep the interior of the houses cool, even when the hot scirocco winds blow in from Africa during summertime.
The central living room connects to the kitchen, the master bedroom with its access onto the sea view terrace, the secondary bedroom with a double bed and an alcove with two single beds overlooking our smallest historic dammuso (Ghero’s Dammuso, because my brother Gherardo made this his private childhood refuge), and, also another smaller room with a single bed.
Each house has two indoor bathrooms, both with showers.
The kitchen is equipped with plenty of the useful housewares needed for an island vacation.
Each dammuso is tastefully decorated with simple Spartan furniture which provides a personal and warm feel in the house. In all of the rooms, even in the bedrooms, there is a liveliness of an inhabited home with collections of our favorite books on the shelves, memorabilia, and heartfelt touches.
All of the rooms are bright and well ventilated; the French doors of the master bedroom and the main room along with the windows of the other rooms provide a flow of fresh air throughout the entire house. The easy access to the panoramic seafront terrace ensures a private and comfortable place to spend summer days.
Customarily, part of the outdoor terrace is shaded by a cannizzo canopy of reeds collected on the island and dried in the sun. Here, the corner table and bench seats are lined by the traditional ducchene stone walls decorated with warm solar colored maioliche tiles. This is the ideal place to take in the scenic view while having lunch, writing, drawing or just doing nothing at all except admiring the rich and varied surroundings in all hours of the day and night.
The terrace features outdoor cushions corresponding with the colors of each house, director’s chairs, deck lounge chairs, a charcoal barbecue and external shower.
It will be my personal pleasure to allow you to find fresh flowers or seasonal greenery in the house upon your arrival. This is something that I will have just prepared especially to warmly welcome you to Le Case del Principe.
Although if you do not find this, please do not feel unloved, it might only be an “island time” delay.
Give me some time and I’ll fix it! In the meantime, it can be a way to get into the slow mindful rhythm of island life.
Welcome to Pantelleria!
Le Case del Principe
a magical place to be experienced!
